Puerto Plata Travel Guide

Puerto Plata, the 500 year old capital city of Puerto Plata province in the Dominican Republic, is a calming retreat from many tourist spots in the Caribbean. It's common to enjoy the area from your resort as many top notch establishments are seated on the gorgeous beaches there. The resort town of Playa Dorada is just 10 minutes east of Puerto Plata, houses the majority of the hotels and resorts in the area. The main vacation compound includes 15 low rise resorts built in a "U" shape and sharing a common gold sand beach as well as the Playa Dorada Golf Course (an 18 hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones). Meet guests from other hotels during evening outings at the casinos and night spots which are opened to all guests. The Playa Dorada Plaza is a giant shopping centre with a varied selection of shops and even has a movie theatre.

Puerto Plata is also a favorite spring break and reading week destination because, in addition to the fantastic weather and beautiful beach coast, the hotels and resorts are all in close proximity (walking distance) within each other. L uperón, Maimón, Cofresí, Playa Dorada, Costa Dorada are the main tourism villages located just outside of Puerto Plata.
