Victoria Travel Guide

Victoria is located on the south-eastern tip of Vancouver Island. This is the beautiful capital city of British Columbia that overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and is able to boast some of the nicest year-round weather in all of Canada. Victoria has a small population of 300,000 people and a breathtaking inner-harbour. The city is peppered with beautifully restored ‘heritage homes’ which are used as museums, bed & breakfasts, rental homes and suites for tourists. Victoria offers some of the best whale watching in the world. Several pods of Killer Whales make their home around the San Juan and Gulf Islands. The waters surrounding Southern Vancouver Island are home to three pods of killer whales. Although killer whales, or Orca, do not migrate, they are most consistently seen in these waters during the summer months, as the salmon, a main part of their diet, are returning from the Pacific.

Half of the Vancouver Island’s residents live in Victoria; however the city is a handy gateway to this magical island that stretches alongside the majority of mainland British Columbia’s coast, from north to south. The rugged west coast is cut deeply by fjords lined between high mountains with many communities located along the shores of protected bays. The eastern plain is rich with timber, farmlands, fishing streams, villages, and modern cities.
