This hotel has everything going for it. Sun, sand, ocean and setting. It’s perched on a hill overlooking the Atlantic with the town as a backdrop. I liked it a few years ago but I love it this time. The manager is new and he’s dialled-in, personable and gets out of his office to see what’s going on. His name is Wilhelm and his attention to detail is obvious. Look him up and say hi from Alan when you come. Check-in was as speedy as it could be in the chaos of a couple of hundred simultaneous arrivals. We were late and they asked the dining room buffet to wait for us, which they did. Staff at the front desk included Javier who was courteous, friendly and efficient. Rooms are spacious, well appointed and lacked for nothing. I always bring washcloths because they are not always supplied but they are here. Soaps and other supplies are generous and replenished as required. I had a beautiful view of the bay from my room. The bed is gigantic, king, with tons of pillows and is very comfortable. There’s also a mini bar so you don’t have to go anywhere to have a cerveza or a Pepsi. There was lots of hot water so showers were a pleasure. I’m vegan so don’t generally go to the restaurants, I stick to the buffet and was very happy with it. There was soy milk without asking and tons of veggie choices. If you like Cuba you’ll never go back after having the food here, sorry Cuba. The buffet staff was extremely friendly and solicitous. Coffee was constantly replenished and so were all the food trays. There was a great selection of bread and rolls in abundance. Silverware, cutlery and tablecloths were immaculate as was the entire room. Pools (5) are everywhere even if you’re in the villas so there is lots of choice plus the ocean. The public beach is accessible by a very tall elevator and there is a hotel bar there too. The private beach is nothing to look at but there are plenty of chairs and it’s very clean. If you’re in the villas it’s very close and very appealing. Bars are everywhere, the drinks are very generous and brands are well stocked. One thing I never saw was out of control over-drinkers which you sometimes see at resorts. The best place I found to sit and watch the ocean and the town was outside the bar in the main building. One could order from the bar staff or from roving servers. The only problem is that smokers inevitably found me so I was often on the move to avoid them. Throwing one or two of them into the ocean to discourage the others was ineffectual. Samana is much safer than other areas and even in town one feels at ease except for some hard sell tactics. Can’t blame them. The hotel is 45 minutes from the airport so by the time you’re loaded and moving it’s easily at least 90 minutes or longer after exiting the plane until you’re there. Even though I’ve strayed to Mexico, Jamaica and Cuba over the last few years I think that Samana will continue to be my first choice for a sun vacation for lots of good reasons.

I've been there sometimes ago when the Hotel was under a different management, my expectations were greatly exceeded so is the recent experience of close friends that I've recommended to expend their holidays there this year. The Hotel is nice with a great view in a quiet place, but besides that, if you are opened minded and your idea of a perfect holiday is not just seating on the beach with your own people, there are much more than just the hotel itself to enjoy! Samana is a beautiful, peaceful place overall with nice National Park and great positively proud Afro Caribbeans.

The beach was not very good, product of recent rains on it, but under normal circumstances is very beautiful. The impressive views, especially the one of the santa barbara bridge. The entertainment team always active and willing to make us enjoy. In general I recommend 100% for those couples who want to see something different and cozy.

After asking three months in advanced for a room in the main building due to my mother’s age and mobility problems, they assigned me to a building far away from the main complex in the third floor. The view was marvelous so I reluctantly took it, BUT, at night, we realize the stairways have no lights!!! I was lucky my mother was involved in a minor accident. I complain, they apologize and suggest a one bed room instead of the two bed I paid for, I rejected. They suggest a lower category room, I refused, I paid for a “privilege “ membership where they promise at least a jr suite. Finally they accept to move me to a two beds jr suite WITH LIGHTS on the stairways (that was all I asked for after all) but... the room is not a jr suite, it has a tiny bathroom (which at this point I don’t really care) but has a BIG STEP bathtube so unsafe for an older adult with mobility issues and no shower. You guys at BP are liars and/or idiots. Bonus! They make me explain the situation again and again to 8 different people. I hope they read this now and understand it.

We spent a very nice week at this hotel and I would go back anytime. The hotel is very very clean, the room was always immaculate. The fridge in the room contained softdrinks, water and beer. We only used the water but it was refilled every day. The food at the buffet is very good. Every morning we got freshly made omelets and the fruit was amazing. For lunch and dinner I recommend the rice and beans and the chicken, it was excellent. The a la carte restos were also very good, the beef filet was very tender at both the french and Italian restaurants. The entertainment staff were excellent and the night entertainment was also very good. The pool was always clean and the entertainment staff had us play various games. The beach was small, but clean and always plenty of lounge chairs. A special shout out to Abel, the beach bartender and the best bartender ever! In addition to making the best drinks, he was always singing and dancing while making drinks. He is a wonderful person that made me feel happy. Be sure to order one of his special rum sours! I look forward to going back to this beautiful place!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great resort!! Went to This resort upon the recommendation of my parents who have been twice and we had a great time. The food was good with different themes each night at the buffet. You'll obviously get the standard stuff each night but they did a good job of mixing it up to give you variety. The A la carts were good, but just a heads up that if you are booking an a la cart bring a pair of pants or they will not let you eat there even if you have reservations. The view was spectacular as you are on a cliff and everywhere you look you see the ocean. The pool area does have a lot of shady areas so you might want to find a spot early depending on how busy the resort is. There are always activities to keep you interested around the main pool. The beach area is also very nice with much more areas for shade , sun and water. The rooms were very clean and they always made sure you had bottles of water in your room. They advise you not to drink the water and they ensure that no one gets sick. Ice is bagged iced and all the water they use to wash the food and drinking water is all bottled water. The staff are super friendly and nice. The only heads up I will give you is that they will be very stern on what the men wear to dinner. In the buffet there is not tank tops as you need to wear t shirts. You are allowed to wear shirts in the buffet but for the a la cart you must wear pants. I did not know this and I did not bring any pants, so we had to buy a pair of pants while I was down there in order to eat at an a la cart.... Yes it was worth eating at the a la carts, so bring pants and book them up when you arrive. The only complaint we had is that the weather is unpredictable and will rain for a bit and then it will juggle between rain sun and clouds. A few days we just had clouds and others were all sun, and one day rained the entire day, so booking excursions became a challenge cuz you don't want to book an excursion when it rains so we just didn't book one all together. The evening shows were entertaining for what it's worth, but the disco was usually empty when we went. There is the private beach area where you can snorkel and is very quiet if the pool and main beach area are too busy for you. All in all there is something to please everyone so I can't see how you can't enjoy yourself while you're there. You'll have a great time so don't be afraid to make friends and talk the people there cuz they are all fantastic and love their job.
