My wife & I just returned from a 2 week stay at Dreams Villamagna AI. We enjoyed everything about our stay as the resort met all of our expectations. Our mini suite was on the 7th flr of building 2 with a “jungle” view and worked great for us. The view included a mountain view and partial ocean view. We were there for rest & relaxation and really enjoyed being away from pool and restaurant side of the resort. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and had great communication skills. Everyone we encountered seemed very interested in making our stay enjoyable. Special shout out to Josue, Hugo, Martin and others at the buffet restaurant who made our breakfasts a great way to start the day.

General: We have recently returned from a 2 week holiday to Dreams Villamagna, Mexico.  It is the first hotel in the Dreams range (and the first under the AM Resorts umbrella) we have stayed at.  It took approximately ½ hour to get to the hotel  from the airport (we were the first drop off).  On arrival you were given a welcome drink.  Although the room wasn’t ready, we were given a map to the hotel and invited to go and have something to eat.  The room was ready when we went back to reception at 3.30pm. The hotel is very beautiful, it is well kept and clean.  Most of the staff are lovely and friendly, and genuinely all seem to really want to ensure you have the best holiday possible. VIP Services – You will be “invited” to have a session with the VIP Services.  It is more for “introducing” you to the various brands within the AM Resorts umbrella and the hope you will buy in to Timeshare, but they can arrange excursions as well.  TBF if I lived in America or Mexico and wanted a retreat, it might have been of interest.  The VIP service team are on a commission, however if you tell them you are not interested, they will not push you further. Room: We booked a full sea view room, and the view was spectacular, and really worth it.  The room was quite large and clean – the Jacuzzi on the balcony was a lovely touch. However, before the first time you use it I recommend you fill it and switch on the bubbles to clear out the jets. We didn't and found ourselves sitting in a dirty leafy bath.  The “bathroom” is part of your bedroom but you have privacy via a curtain.  The shower and loo are behind frosted glass doors, but again little was left to the imagination (so not recommended for couples in new relationships!).  The mini bar was a nice touch, and because we don’t drink beer, the hotel was happy to replace it with diet coke. Pools: There are several – the main pool, the outdoor heated pool (all pools were bath like anyway), a small paddling pool and the infinity pool. At the bottom of the infinity pool is a small pool but I am not sure how deep it is. The pools looked clean however with goggles on you could see lots of things floating around(someone did clean the filters out; I just don’t think the filters are very good, though). In respect of sunbeds there were plenty, with lots of shade available. We found the hotel was really quiet Sunday to Thursday, with lots of Mexican, Americans and Canadians arriving for the weekends (lucky things!).  It was slightly confusing over which areas you were allowed, as the first 2 buildings nearest the ocean (and by the Infinity pool) are Residentials.  This might have been made clear in the TUI welcome meeting, which we did not attend (on the basis that it was at it was so early in the morning after our 11 hour flight the day before). Pool Service was excellent – we received tremendous service from Alberto and Julio – both check on you with frequency, remember your drinks and even sometimes just deliver them without an order.  Excellent service!  All drinks were premium label too. Food - On the whole the food was very good.  The buffet in World Café was a slight let down for the selection (and chicken tended to be dry).  We tried Room service a few times – do not get the chicken soup.  It was chicken but not soup (it was more chicken and some veg in hot water).   Gohan for us was a let down.      It is the Sushi restaurant, touted as adults only, but children are allowed before 9pm.  The let down was that even though kids were allowed, sushi is only available after 9pm.  The food in Oceana was lovely.  We thought the evening menu was not quite as appealing as the lunch menu, and we though a simply cooked Catch of the Day should be added to the menu as Catch of the Day, however the Mahi Mahi on the menu is tremendous. Massive shout out to Chef Cesar – his food is amazing; if you are offered the “cooking session” by the Poolside Entertainment team, go.  Chef prepares the freshest tuna for you to try, and it is amazing!  He is really kind and friendly.  Pedro in Oceana gave outstanding service.  He wasn’t waiting our table but saw our service was not up to scratch so he stepped in. Barefoot Grill was OK.  Make sure you try guac and chips (tortilla chips) – you need to ask for the guac so it stays fresh.  Luis in Barefoot Grill may not speak great English as he caused confusion on our first visit.  We wanted a snack but he sent us to Oceana.  He isn’t particularly welcoming either.  On one occasion he walked away when I was in the middle of giving a drinks order to go and chat to a young Mexican couple.  He did come back eventually, but got my order wrong. Not impressive at all. Day entertainment Xiomara, Javier, Jonathan, Ricardo, Matteo and Ernesto were all fab.  All of them are great fun, and will try to get you involved in volleyball (on the pool or the beach), Chess, Boogie Board racing, Jenga, tequila tasting and “Cookery lessons”. Evening entertainment we saw some of the entertainment.  Our daughter was more impressed than us, but the Fire Show was good, and the Mexican night is good fun. The beach is stunning.  The sand is soft (and super hot).  The ocean smelled a little like ripe brie on occasion and wasn't clear. It was extremely warm though.  The waves could be quite large and there was a strong undertow, so small children need a close eye keeping on them.   Quick mention about Memo and Ivanovich, the resident Harris’s Hawk.  Memo is really lovely – he takes time to talk to people and tell them all about Ivanovich.  He is obviously very proud of him (and rightly so). Excursions there were several excursions we wanted to do, however when we looked through the brochure we found that either children had to be over 12 or the excursion was 7 or 8 hours long, which for us would just be too long.  We were told that if we went into town we would be able to do the excursions regardless of age, however we figured they are there to keep our child safe, so didn’t proceed.  Summary – on the whole this was a really lovely, relaxing family holiday, which we all very much enjoyed.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank the Staff for the hospitality at the end of April. I had booked a trip for my wife and I a few weeks before departure. I had requested a king room via email with the resort and they put us on a higher floor with a jungle view; turns out the jungle views also have a view of the bay from the patio. Check in: was very quick, they're setup well and got 8 other couples through the line within 5 minutes. This is by far the best check in I've experienced in travels. The bellboy had our luggage up to our room within 15 minutes so we could change and get to supper. The Room: incredible is the best way to describe the room. There's a large soaker tub next to the bathroom and a walk in shower. The mini fridge was stocked daily with cans of beer, bottles of pop and juice. The patio was a neat feature as it had a jacuzzi on it (we used it once, it takes a while to fill up but was a nice treat). The Resort: everything is so close and they don't force a bracelet on you for the week. The pools are relaxing with waiters bringing drinks out as needed. Jesus was our waiter most of the week and did an amazing job. There's a bar towards the beach with swings that you can sit around and chat with others including the bartender (Jesus too I believe... ). Everything is fairly close by, we didn't do a lot of walking which for me was much appreciated. The Food/Restaurants: Ok, this is normally a big focus for everyone. I'll beak down our opinion on the specific restaurants: -Barefoot Grill - Perfect for a lunch when lounging around the pool for the day. they made fresh to order burgers and had veggies to add. I can't recall the entire menu offered but this was a welcomed lunch option. -World Cafe (The Buffet) - We did eat here during most breakfasts a few lunchtimes and 2 dinner meals. The Buffet spread always seemed fresh, I felt it was a high end buffet with different options on different days. The buffet is not huge, its smaller with high quality and fresh food replenished as needed and to keep it fresh. -Seaside Grill - ate here twice for supper. The steaks were my choice both times and they had great taste. the Waiter would come and check how the steak was cooked and put it on the grill longer if required (I had this done once but it wasn't undercooked a lot). Really excellent service. -Portofino - Had the Italian one night but wished we'd have had it a second time. The food was incredible and I would have paid to order the food from a restaurant off of the resort. They did a wonderful job. -Oceana - had lunch and an afternoon snack here the one day. The fresh fish and chips with salsa were a welcomed meal. The service again, incredible! -Coco Cafe - enjoyed a couple coffee's and sat on the patio at this location. there are a few fresh treats as well; this was included in our package. El Patio - probably our least favorite of the week. We should have gone back and tried it once more and ordered something else, i felt it was quite bland. However, the service.... excellent! -Gohan (rooftop sushi lounge) - What a treat this place was. We spent numerous evenings up on the patio which was kid free after 9pm. Drinks and Sushi to cap off a night and watch the sunset or enjoy a nice breeze. The service wasn't awfully quick up here even when it was not busy although it shouldn't bother anyone. The Sushi was great! Check - out: very quick on a Sunday considering the busy resort. they were very polite and asked us how they did during our stay Cons: Ok, I'm not that hard to please and this was by far the best resort we've stayed at over the past 10 years of travelling. However, it has one trait that is shared by every other resort that we have visited.... The Weekend Invasion. This resort like every other resort packs their rooms over the weekend and what was a peaceful week was no more when we were sitting around the pool and about 20 people (including 10 kids) began to share 2 loungers. The kids SCREAMED in the pool (with drinks in their hands as well, you could tell that security was over their heads and couldn't force any sort of calmness into the situation; it sure didn't seem like they cared at that point either. After I left the pool I walked by the 'adult' hot tub to witness it being over run by children, several in just diapers getting in and out; again no enforcement for the enjoyment of the adults only hot tub. After getting up to our room mid afternoon to try to get away from the overrun hotel, we new neighbors that filled their patio tub up and let their child play in it for about 5 or 6 hours straight... again screaming and yelling. A bunch of people ended up moving to another location freeing up space for the circus, the restaurants ended up being the same with kids just running free spilling food all over the floor. The staff did a good job cleaning up after the circus but it was testing my patience. I should add that I understand that hotels pack people in over the weekend to maximize their revenues so its not worth stating that I wouldn't have expected any less. What I would have expected from a resort and its management that I'd classify as 'luxury' to have control over the circus side show. This rating would have been a 5 and would have been had they had control over the weekend disaster. I'd certainly consider going back but would not spend time at the resort Friday afternoon through Sunday noon. Thanks again for the amazing staff, you're all incredible!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful trip!! I had been to a Secrets resort, and when it was sold out the agent suggested Dreams VillaMagna. It was just as great!! The staff was great, the resort was always clean, lots of room at the beach and pool. Lots of great restaurants and snack bar in the afternoon. Loved the swings at the bar and hammocks for some quiet time. Alfredo makes a mean drink at the beach bar lol.. I would definately go back!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Welcome home! Hi fellow travelers Me and my girlfriend stayed at Dreams Villamagna between Jan 23 and 30. I would rate this resort a 10/10. Let's start right from the beginning. As soon as the bus dropped us off at the hotel I was greeted with a glass of champagne and a hot towel to freshen up. I literally stepped off the bus and the hotel employee handed me a glass of ice cold champagne and welcomed me using the phrase "welcome home!" I immediately felt at ease and comfortable. They ensured I had my luggage and escorted me to the front desk area where we checked in without delay. Our original room was 1st floor tropical view and we asked to upgrade to an ocean view room. They offered us a discounted rate to upgrade to a 6th floor ocean view room. If you enjoy watching and hearing the ocean and taking in the gorgeous mexican sunsets I highly recommend you book an ocean view room. You will not regret it. Our room was gorgeous. It looked exactly like the pictures on the website. It was immaculate and very well presented. Every day housekeeping would restock our mini fridge with fresh coronitas, bottled water, juice and pop. The food at the hotel was outstanding. The buffet was great with countless selections for every meal and the food was not recycled. We always had fresh and tasty items to choose from. The fruit was always fresh as well. Each a la cart restaurant was also excellent. The food was great at each restaurant but a special thank you to the kitchen and servers at Portofino. This Italian restaurant was over the top. It is basically a fine dining restaurant and the food and ambiance did not fail to impress. I highly recommend eating here for dinner. Probably the best filet mignon I've ever had. And now I will save the best for last. The fantastic servers that delivered drinks to us around the pool and beach. These servers work very hard in the hot sun day after day running drinks back and forth. They never forget what you ordered and are so fast and friendly and funny! Definitely the highlight of our experience staying at Dreams. A big shout out to the following staff that made a difference and a heartfelt thank you: RICARDO, LORENZO, VICTOR, FELIPE, OMAR, BETTY, MIGUEL, JERRY, JENIFER, JULIO, AND ISMAEL. Stop searching and book your vacation here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice relaxing holiday. My wife and I were impressed with the quality of this resort property but mostly by the professionalism and service of the resort staff.
Date published: 2015-09-23
Rated 4 out of 5 by from certainly not worth 5 stars occupation policy of the pool and beach loungers is ridiculous: hotel pretends to enforce free beach chairs for everyone, but all those chairs are pre-occupied by different towels and beach gear. A shame.
Date published: 2015-04-10
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Resort was okay, however a few drawbacks. This resort is not a 5 star, 4 at best. The food, other than at Oceana, was mediocre, especially the buffet. The Italian was pretty bad but maybe it was because it was later in the evening. The beach chairs were the most uncomfortable that I've used, and most were broken. Very little shade at poolside, and the beach was overcrowded with chairs and palapas. There is no swim up bar, and the beach bar is actually not on the beach. The lobby bar is very small and no entertainment. There is only one place to get a drink after 10:30 at night, and that is a well kept secret. Would likely not book this resort again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Food and service was amazing My husband and I are 37 and travel every year to an all inclusive. This trip was without our children. If you want to have a relaxing quiet holiday then this is the place to go. The food at lunch and dinner was amazing, our server Oscar went above and beyond for us. Drinks were good, never had a problem getting top shelf booze at all the bars. Hotel was very clean, maid service did a good job in our room every day. (we did tip) Before we went away I did read reviews about the resort being quiet in the evenings, this is an understatement. Unless you go up to the rooftop sushi bar for drinks or sit at the few seats in the lobby bar you will have nothing else to do in the evening. Only quiet elevator type music was played so it really made for early evenings in bed. One other thing is that there is only one washroom for everyone at the pool and the beach. We knew there was no pool bar but you cant even sit on the edge of the pool with a drink in your hand :( We had booked a tropical view room but when we got there they tried to upgrade us to the ocean view preferred club for an extra $700...crazy! Anyway I said no to that and said that the most we would pay for an upgrade was $200. While waiting for our room to be ready they came up to us and said they "talked" to management and that for "us" they would upgrade for the $200. I would say that the preferred ocean view rooms are worth the $200 but not anymore then that. We like the resorts a little more up beat so we will not return to Dreams Villamagna but I would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet, relaxing vacation with great food.
